Hey readers,
Two Saturday evenings ago, my guest & I were invited to check out the new fall/winter menu at HOBNOB Neighborhood Tavern located in the heart of Midtown at the corner of Monroe & Piedmont where Morningside, Ansley Park and Piedmont Heights meet-thanks Fred! (a HUGE thank you & shout out to Morgan & the ML+A and HOBNOB teams). For those of you that are unfamiliar with the Atlanta restaurant scene, HOBNOB is one of three restaurants under Communities Hospitality, alongside G's (formerly known as Gilbert's) and 10th & Piedmont. The brothers behind this successful restaurant group, Sean and Gilbert Yeremyan, have certainly made a name for themselves and their three wildly successful and well-established Midtown restaurants that first began when the duo opened Gilbert's back in 2000, HOBNOB in 2010 and then 10th & Piedmont later in 2012. Having had a strong passion for food and the hospitality industry as a whole at a young age, the Yeremyan brothers both studied hospitality and business management from coast-to-coast, specifically Turkey, Brussels and then finally at Mercer University in Atlanta, officially making ATL their home in 1997. While each establishment is distinct in the type of atmosphere and cuisine it offers, what remains the same across the board is the fact that all three restaurants aim to serve unique, high-quality and chef-driven cuisine at unbelievably reasonable prices in a warm, friendly environment. Simply put, the vibes you get at any of the Yeremyan's brothers establishments is unlike one you'll find anywhere else! Any time you step into their restaurants, every staff member and every customer just about has the biggest smile on their faces, basically confirming the fact that your experience there is going to be bomb-diggity! Having dined at each of their restaurants in the past and meeting both Sean and Gilbert Yeremyan, I can confidently say that these brothers, without a doubt, are some of the most genuine & friendliest restaurant owners I've ever come across...EVER! Just by the way they interact with myself, their staff and all of the other customers in the restaurant, the passion they exude simply knows no limits and it's such a wonderful thing to see and experience firsthand! Having been introduced to HOBNOB in October 2015, I've been back countless times with my friends that reside over at Ansley Forest for their delicious brews & bites and will continue to come back and support the Communitas restaurants for as long as I'm an ATLien, that's for sure! So when I was invited to come back & sample their new fall/winter menu, you bet I made sure to clear my saturday night schedule in order to HOBNOB (aka "drink sociably" or "to toast one another") responsibly!
Let's get started:
It's probably no surprise by now that both my mom & I had yet another incredible dining experience at HOBNOB Neighborhood Tavern and left stuffed like a turkey on Thanksgiving! From the moment we stepped through the doors up until the moment we left, the HOBNOB team went above and beyond to ensure that my guest & I would have the best Saturday night and they did just that! Upon entering, we were immediately greeted & seated in their cozy dining room. Within a few minutes of being seated, our server, Devin, stopped by our table to introduce herself and take our drink orders before returning to guide us through the rest of the menu. When she returned, she walked us through the new fall/winter menu items and made recommendations from each section of the menu, including the new generation duck nachos, shrimp and grits and pot roast, all of which we ended up ordering since they all seemed like fantastic options to go with. Throughout our dinner, Devin was incredibly sweet, attentive and helpful. Despite the full house and parties taking place on this busy Saturday night, we never once felt rushed, which was truly appreciated. Our drinks were never more than half empty before stopping by to fill them up & she was always genuinely interested in hearing how we were enjoying everything we ordered. There wasn't a single dish we ordered that we wouldn't order again in a heart beat because everything was just SO darn good! Seriously though, the food here is so innovative & unique at such an incredible price point that if you didn't dine here, you'd need a legit spankin' from your mama! And yes, I'd totally tattle on you! Although we didn't get a chance to chat with Sean this time around, we did have the opportunity to meet Mark, the general manager, whom was so welcoming and kind, despite the dinner rush. With stacks of plates in each hand, he managed to chat and check up with us any chance he could, which again was going above and beyond in regards to the first-class service here. I don't about ya'll, but when owners like Sean and restaurant staff and managers like Devin and Mark go out of their way to ensure each and every customer is satisfied with the quality of the food being served & level of service being provided, it just goes to show how passionate and dedicated they are to providing the best of the best out there! It's no wonder why the entire restaurant was rockin'--it's a local neighborhood favorite, a place where you can go eat, relax & just know that you'll have a fabulous time, which HOBNOB has clearly done over the past six years. The interior has a playful, yet rustic and eclectic design with its use of reclaimed wooden furnishings, retro tin signs, dangling light fixtures and fully-stocked bar. Despite common myth that taverns are only for adults, HOBNOB is a very family-friendly environment, making it the perfect place to bring your kids and grandparents, or to grab some of your closest friends and co-workers for a night out on the town. So whether you're looking for a change of pace from barhopping and want to sit down, unwind and dig into some terrific fare (+ an incredible variety of brews and more!), look no further than HOBNOB. Now to ask you a serious question: Don't you think it's time to erase those preconceived notions you've had or heard about taverns and the quality of food/alcohol they serve Because I'm 100% certain that if you've dined here, those notions will leave you with plenty of regrets! Just one last note before wrapping it up, I want to thank Morgan and the ML+A and HOBNOB teams, especially Mark and Devin for a wonderful saturday night! I already come back often with my group of friends, so suffice to say I'll be back again very soon because I'm absolutely obsessed with their house special smoked chicken pot pie!
Have a wonderful day,
-Sandy

Let's get started:
☆Exterior
☆Exterior
☆Interior
☆New Fall/Winter 2016 Menu
☆Southern Belle Pimento Cheese (HOBNOB Green Apple & Watermelon Radish Pickles, Crostini): When pimento cheese is on the menu, there's just absolutely no way anything could go wrong! HOBNOB's take on this southern classic was crazy addictive! It was deliciously flavorful with plenty of shredded cheese & juicy pimento peppers mixed in and seasoned to perfection! The toasted crostini added a nice textural balance as did the crunch and tanginess from the pickled radishes.
☆New Generation Duck Tacos (Corn Tortillas, Duck Confit, Fontina Cheese, HOBNOB Date & Fig Jam, HOBNOB Roasted Tomato Pesto, Fresno Pepper): Hands down one of the BEST & most creative items we ordered! All of the various components included in this appetizer were simply mind-blowing! The crunch from the tortilla, sweet from the fig jam, chew from the confit, salt from the cheese, creamy from the pesto and snap from the pepper---OH MY! There was legitimately a party taking place....in my mouth!
☆Low Country Shrimp & Grits (Havarti Cheese Grit Cake, Cajun Andouille Butter, Andouille Sausage): If you're from the South & can't seem to get enough of the classic shrimp and grits dish whenever you're dining out (like myself), then you've got to STOP what you're doing & make a trip out to HOBNOB to get your mouths on some of the BEST S&G in the city! This baby has plenty of succulent shrimp, spicy andouille sausage and cheesy grits simmering in a pool of spicy Cajun-inspired roux and served up in an adorable cast iron skillet-can we say YUM!?
☆Pot Roast (Short Rib, Buttermilk Mashed Potatoes, Roasted Vegetables, Cabernet Gravy): Since the weather had been particularly chilly this evening, I couldn't resist ordering a warm, steamy bowl of homemade pot roast served with plenty of mouthwatering short rib, creamy mashed potatoes and plenty of stewed veggies! The short rib itself had an enjoyably chewy consistency, while the cabaret gravy really shined through in each bite.
☆Steakhouse Burger (Onion Ring, Bacon Tomato Ketchup, Cheddar Cheese, Bacon, Lettuce, Tomato): You may think HOBNOB only serves fancy schmancy pub food from the other pics you've seen in this post, but I'm going to stop you right there & prove to you that you're absolutely WRONG with this one picture! They've got an entire section of their menu dedicated to burgers ranging from the "Morningside" which includes a fried egg, bacon, bleu cheese, lettuce and tomato to the "Mediterranean," a playful combo that includes cucumber mint yogurt, feta, lettuce and tomato to name a few! Additionally, their meat options for their burgers (includes 50/50, turkey, lamb, beef, chicken, veggie, meatloaf) are sure to please every healthy herbivore to ravenous carnivore in your life! My mom & I devoured this massive burger from the top down---the beef patty itself was juicy and cooked to a perfect medium rare, the addition of the freshly fried onion ring was especially delicious and the fresh veggies were crisp and tasty as well, just the way I like it!
☆Pumpkin Spice Cheesecake: With just the right amount of sweet & spice in every bite, what more could you possibly want? I'm a sucker for anything and everything pumpkin spice flavored and this cheesecake was no exception!
☆HOBNOB Cobbler with Vanilla Ice Cream: When dining at HOBNOB, the MUST order dessert here is their famous cobbler! Each cobbler is made fresh to order & comes in its own adorable ramekin! While the buttery and soft cobbler crust is typically my favorite part of any cobbler, the bubbly, sweet peaches underneath were the real winner here! Topped with a generous scoop of vanilla bean ice cream and whipped cream to balance out the warmth of the dessert and to add a hint of creaminess, it's no wonder why this dessert disappeared in the blink of an eye!
Have a wonderful day,
-Sandy
