HAPPY HAPPY 100TH POST!!! And an imaginary toast to many more to come~
Like I promised, here are some posts for you :) So you know how they say-Breakfast is the most important meal of the day? Well, with that thought in mind, I've had my eye out on this popular Atlanta establishment, West Egg Cafe, for quite some time now. With all the rave reviews I've read and heard through word-of-mouth, I figured it was finally my turn to give it a test run. Before I get started, I should mention that the name of this place originated from one of my all-time favorite books, The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. In short, East Egg was where the aristocrats lived (families that were rich for many generations-"old money"), while West Egg was where Jay Gatsby and other self-made rich resided (they earned it themselves or parents through work-"new money"), but I'm keeping my lips sealed because it really is one of the best novels I've ever read. The relationship of this establishment and the book has already won my heart :)
Let's get started:
☼Follow the signs to get to the front door :).
☼Starters for the day
☼The Blue Plate ($7.00): two eggs, biscuit, choice of bacon, ham or turkey sausage, choice of roasted garlic grits or skillet potatoes
☼Bakery section
☼YUM :) Shot of the cupcakes-red velvet, coca-cola and lemon
☼The famous Coca-Cola cupcake, perfectly adorned with a gummi Cola bottle on top. Yummy, but needed more of that coca cola flavoring in it
FOOD (4/5): I ordered The Blue Plate, which as you can see above, came with a fluffy and light biscuit, two (turkey) sausages, two eggs any way you like, and garlic grits. I love breakfast food, so much in fact, I could eat breakfast food for any meal of the day and still not get tired of it. Also, breakfast foods are simple to prepare, making them hassle-free, yummy & a good serving of all the food groups. Anyways, the eggs were just your typical eggs, I personally like my eggs over easy and the yolk spilled out smoothly and yolk-ily. The biscuit was moist, warm and tasty-a little toasted crunch. The real winners on this plate were indefinitely the turkey sausage and garlic grits. Perfectly chewy and tasty meat slices-I need some more of those in my life. Grits and I have a love-love relationship. Plain, with cheese, with butter-it's always my first choice when I see it listed as a side. The roasted garlic flavor was subtle, but still there. An it was warm, just how steaming grits should taste and open your nostrils, like it did mine. In addition to breakfast foods, which is served all day long, there's also a lunch/dinner menu and a cute little bakery inside the shop. Cupcakes, baked goods, gourmet coffees-it's the perfect little place to grab a bite to eat and get dessert. Hearing so much of their cola cola cupcakes, I had to get it but of course. It was moist and delicious, but it did let me down. I was expecting a much stronger cola flavor to be present in either the frosting or cake batter itself, but it wasn't, so the only flavoring I got out of it was the coca cola flavor. I can't wait to try the other 2 flavors I saw that day, in addition to the various baked goods on display.
SERVICE (5/5): My friend and I arrived around 1:30 on a Saturday afternoon. Surprisingly to us, the place was completely packed! Even so, the hostess immediately took our names down and no longer than ten minutes later, we were seated in the small table in the very corner. Customers get the option of sitting inside, outside or the best available, so it's really up to you and your preferences :). We happened to just choose next best available since we had to run the rest of our errands that day. While it did take some time for the waitress to come by and take our orders, she was very efficient in bringing us condiments, refilling our drinks, checking up on us an was just very attentive overall. Since we noticed more people coming in, we left as soon as we finished our meal, was brought the check, paid and headed out. Overall, a fast and simple process. Right before we headed out, we stopped by the bakery counter and grabbed some of the tantalizing baked goods and the gentleman helping us was also really friendly. All of the employees we encountered were all very friendly and helpful, 5 stars overall :)!
DECOR (5/5): Cute & vintage, something different. It's very industrial and modernized inside of the restaurant, kind of hard to explain. It's definitely very cozy with a super spacious inside dining area, in addition to the outdoor dining area. The bakery is set-up very nicely, all behind a glass window, and everything is really out in the open here. In addition, since there's usually a wait, like there was when we came in on a Saturday afternoon, there's comfy couches you can take a seat at while you wait. Oh! And how could I forget? There's the cutest photo booth right by it! I haven't seen those in years! And-the menus here are absolutely adorable! They come printed out and placed inside of an office folder, giving it that rustic vibe-and there's definitely a trend with the orange colors here-LOVE it!
Overall, I was right! Just like the novel, West Egg Café was definitely a hit in my book (and tummy) as well! They always have specials and an ever-changing menu which they update you on if you "Like" them on Facebook. All-in-all, I can say that I'm so glad I've found a new breakfast spot in Atlanta. I can't wait to get back here and try out their lunch/dinner, especially that PB&J burger (not peanut butter, but pimento cheese, bacon and tomato jam) I've been hearing so much about. Keep up the great work in all areas-food & service :). And I should also mention that they have some of the best prices in Atlanta too for all meals throughout the day (if you don't believe me, check out the prices on their website here: West Egg Cafe If you're a foodie, or just looking for a new place to grab an affordable bite to eat without breaking the bank, I'd highly recommend checking this place out.
