REVIEW: Martin's (Norcross, GA)

Hey readers,

A few weeks back, my aunt had asked me to accompany her to a doctor's visit since my cousin had an emergency work meeting that she had to attend. So without hesitation, of course I agreed since it just happened to be my day off. Well, on that particular Friday morning, I had a hard time falling back asleep, so I ended up starting my day much earlier than expected and began making my way over to my aunt's house. Seeing that I was almost 2 hours ahead of our scheduled meeting time, I figured I'd grab a bite to eat to kill some time, which is what brought me to Martin's. I had always seen and driven by this restaurant a few thousand times, but had never known anything about them until very recently, when one of my best friends mentioned how much she loved their food & affordable prices. Wanting to avoid grabbing a fast food breakfast at the Burger King across the street (no offense BK, just wanted to try something new!), I decided to give Martin's a shot, especially with my friend's raving review of this neighborhood favorite.

Let's get started:

♫Exterior

♫Chicken Biscuit w/ Gravy

♫FOOD (3.5/5): What I love about Martin's menu is the simplicity of it-they're a no-frills, good food for cheap, type of establishment with rock bottom prices and generous portions that'll seriously blow your mind! Since I can't pass up a good chicken biscuit when I see it on the menu, I immediately knew I had to order one along with a side of sausage gravy. Starting with the chicken biscuit, the fried chicken was light, crispy and deliciously moist. The breading to meat ratio was perfect and I particularly appreciated the fact that their chicken had more meat than it did breading, which is certainly noticeable as you take the first bite. Additionally, the biscuit was airy and fluffy, which paired well with the juicy chicken. On the other hand, the sausage gravy was just okay and didn't really stand out to me as much as their biscuit sandwiches did. It was a bit too runny for my taste, but nothing a little hot sauce and a side order of biscuits couldn't fix. I'm still forever spoiled by the mouthwatering gravy served at JR's BBQ and Log House (sorry, not sure where those pictures went!), so I'd say I'm pretty darn picky about my gravy since no place I've ever had gravy from can compare to the one at JR's. Regardless, it's certainly worth trying out & adding to any of Martin's breakfast biscuits!

♫SERVICE (N/A): In terms of service, there really isn't much here. While the employees behind the counter/open kitchen and the older lady taking my order were all very friendly, customers simply place their order at the counter, take a seat and either retrieve their order from the counter or have it brought to the table. Martin's is a self-service establishment with a dine-in vibe, making it great for people like myself to be in and out within a short period of time.

♫DECOR (2.5/5): While I don't recall much of the decor here, I do remember it being in a rather spacious standalone area with plenty of parking and also a drive-thru window. As you enter the restaurant, you'll immediately notice the difference between day and night in the way the interior is set up. The order counter area has dark brown furniture and tiles and exudes "darkness" as very little light shines through, while the main dining room is surrounded by tall windows, cream colored furniture and light shining through all corners. Even with the oversized menus, it can be a little difficult since there's very little light at that half of the restaurant.

Overall, I really enjoyed my experience at Martin's and will most definitely be making another trip here again some time soon! Although the interior could use some sprucing up, there's plenty of fantastic options available to order on their menu and the prices just can't be beat, especially when they're on par, if not lower, than many fast food establishments and are made-to-order when they're ordered. Had it not been for my aunt's doctor's appointment, I probably would've never stumbled upon this gem or taken the time to stop by, but I'm so glad I did in the end!

Have a wonderful day,
-Sandy
