HELP WILLY’S MEXICANA GRILL RAISE $22K IN 22 DAYS
FOR BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF METRO ATLANTA
Donate $5, Get $5 Coupon During 22nd Anniversary Celebration June 1-22

ATLANTA-For the last two years, Willy’s Mexicana Grill has turned its birthday into a chance to give back to the community. After raising $20,000 for Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta in 2015 and $21,000 in 2016, Atlanta’s first (and still best) burrito restaurant celebrates turning 22 this year by offering customers the opportunity to help raise $22,000 for the organization in just 22 days.

Starting June 1, customers who donate $5 or more to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta’s Workforce Development Program will receive a coupon for $5 off their next visit. Every contribution directly benefits this local program, which provides high school students with volunteer and leadership opportunities that will help prepare them for successful careers.

“During the month of June, stopping in at Willy’s for our birthday celebration is a gift that keeps on giving,” says Willy’s founder Willy Bitter. “Not only do you get to enjoy the good feeling of supporting a worthy cause, but you also get a coupon good for $5 worth of our signature, fresh-made favorites.”

Bitter adds, “Best of all, our customers’ donations will have an impact in their own communities. If you make a donation in Athens, Columbus or Cartersville, that money will go directly to the clubs in those neighborhoods. You could be contributing to the future success of someone you see every day.”

The fundraiser runs through June 22 at all Willy's restaurants. The coupon may be used for a future visit to all locations except Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

About Willy’s Mexicana Grill
Willy’s Mexicana Grill was started by Willy Bitter, an entrepreneur who fell in love with California-style burritos after living in San Francisco and visiting the Mission District in the 1990s. He brought the idea for a new style of fast-casual Mexican restaurant back to Atlanta and opened his first Willy’s in 1995. Willy’s is growing responsibly and steadily, with 31 restaurants presently in the metro Atlanta area as well as Athens, Cartersville and Columbus, Georgia. For more information, visit willys.com.

5CHURCH ATLANTA ANNOUNCES ARRIVAL OF EXECUTIVE CHEF SCOTLEY INNIS
New Chef Brings Modernized Approach to Southern Cuisine at Hotspot in Heart of the City

ATLANTA– Owner Ayman Kamel and his team at 5Church Atlanta are excited to welcome a new executive chef, Scotley Innis, who was formerly sous chef at South City Kitchen in Midtown and executive chef at Ormsby’s in West Midtown. Now, Innis blends his in-depth knowledge of Southern cuisine with his Caribbean heritage to give 5Church’s modern American menu a worldly approach with local flair.

“We’re thrilled to have Scotley joining our team,” says Kamel, who manages the restaurant’s daily operations. “Our guests are really going to enjoy the global flavors and modern edge that his cuisine has to offer.”

At 5Church, Innis aims to bring a more “up-tempo” Southern feel to the menu while also incorporating unique flavors from around the world. “So much of my cooking identity stems from my childhood and is blended with all I’ve learned as a chef here in Atlanta,” he says. “I am passionate about every meal I prepare, as though I’m cooking for my family and friends each night at the restaurant. Every time a guest comes to 5Church to dine, I want them to feel at ease and leave with an experience they will rave about.”

Innis continues to draw inspiration for his cuisine from his Caribbean background, incorporating ingredients that his mother and grandmother cooked on a daily basis. He loves applying unorthodox techniques to traditional dishes and thrives on the challenge of proving to locals that Southern staples can be modernized and still taste extraordinary. But it is Innis’ own son who really takes his imagination to the next level. “My son is an artist, and being with him always encourages me to step up my own creative game.”

In addition to the opportunity for creative growth, Innis was drawn to the familial feeling he got from 5Church. “When you’re working in a restaurant, the owner and staff become your second family. I immediately felt that level of comfort at 5Church; like I fit right in,” he says.

Innis’ early culinary career was spent working in local Jamaican-style restaurants in New York, but he soon desired to be a part of the quintessential Southern culture and made his move to Atlanta to begin pursuing a culinary arts education in 2005. While earning his culinary degree from Le Cordon Bleu, Innis began working in the kitchen at Marriott Hotels and then Au Pied de Cochon at the InterContinental Hotel, climbing his way up the ladder from garde manger to line cook to chef and gaining experience in French culinary techniques.

After three years of working in large hotel dining operations, he became the executive chef at Mudcatz Bayou Bar and Grill in Dunwoody, where he immersed himself in Cajun and Creole cuisine. Innis was then hired as a line cook at Tom Colicchio’s Craftbar in Buckhead and sharpened his skills in fine dining cuisine. In December 2009, Innis accepted a position at Ormsby’s and was promoted to executive chef in 2011, where his seasonal menu focused on from-scratch comfort food and fresh pub favorites that relied heavily on local produce and herbs. He then joined the team at South City Kitchen in Midtown to further both his knowledge of Southern cuisine and the business behind running a restaurant. Innis is now using his varied experience to help 5Church build its brand in Atlanta.

INTERACTIVE ICE CREAM PHENOMENON SWEET CHARLIE'S
ROLLS INTO BUCKHEAD JUNE 8
One-of-a-Kind Ice Cream Shop Uses a Super-Cold Steel Surface and Unique Showmanship to Create Hand-Rolled Dessert Treats, Made Fresh to Order

ATLANTA- Just in time for another sweltering Southern summer, Sweet Charlie’s, the hand-rolled ice cream and yogurt phenomenon is set to roll into Atlanta on Thursday, June 8. The shop at 3872 Roswell Road in Buckhead (next to Superica) is the first-ever franchise location for the year-old Sweet Charlie’s, which has been creating lines down the block since the concept debuted in Philadelphia last summer.

Budding Atlanta entrepreneur and 2012 University of Georgia graduate John Martin is responsible for bringing the concept to Atlanta. The Virginia-Highland resident became enamored with rolled ice cream last year after seeing it in action during a summer vacation with his wife.

“Sweet Charlie’s combines the art of making rolled ice cream with modern American showmanship to create a one-of-a-kind experience for all ages,” says Martin. “The best part is, it tastes delicious.”

It starts with a base of either premium ice cream, nonfat yogurt or the company’s Nada-Moo vegan option. Each ice cream or frozen yogurt is made to order on a super-cold surface that is below 20 degrees. Because the surface is so cold, very small ice crystals form quickly. These ice crystals create the freshest, most delicious end product. The unique process eliminates the need to add stabilizers, emulsifiers, and preservatives.

Menu highlights include:
  • Rise & Shine - made with Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal bits
  • Off Duty - a coffee/donut combo
  • Kiss & Tell - made with mint Oreos
  • S’more Please – with graham crackers, chocolate and roasted marshmallows
  • Monkey See Monkey Do - with Nutella and bananas
  • Death By Chocolate - created with chocolate brownies and chocolate chips

Ice cream rolls are served straight up in a cup or on a fresh, warm, glazed Sublime Doughnut, also known as the “Tall Charlie”.

The family-operated Sweet Charlie’s is the brainchild of 19-year-old entrepreneur Kyle Billig, who after watching a video about the trend of rolled ice cream that was taking off overseas, asked himself why no one had duplicated its success in the U.S. The first Sweet Charlie’s debuted on Philadelphia’s Walnut Street last summer, and the lines down the block inspired the Billigs to open additional new locations in New Jersey and Delaware. The family was so impressed by Martin’s pitch, they awarded him the first-ever Sweet Charlie’s franchise for Atlanta.

Sweet Charlie’s is located at 3872 Roswell Road in the Buckhead Court shopping center next to Superica. The ice cream shop has a garage-style roll up window for warm breezy days and a vacation vibe filled with good music and five patented super-cold metal surfaces where Sweet Charlie’s ice cream wizards will dazzle customers. Sweet Charlie’s will be open seven days a week, from 12 – 10 p.m. For more information, call 404-549-8183 or visit sweetcharlies.com.

BABALU TAPAS & TACOS TO OPEN FIRST ATLANTA LOCATION IN EARLY SUMMER
New Midtown Restaurant Offers Melodic Mix of Latin-Inspired Cuisine and Sharing-Style Fun

ATLANTA – Babalu Tapas & Tacos announces the opening of its first Atlanta restaurant in the 33 Peachtree Place mixed-use development in Midtown this summer. Named after the signature song of Desi Arnaz’s character Ricky Ricardo in the television comedy series I Love Lucy, Babalu offers a sharing-style dining experience featuring made-from-scratch, Latin-inspired dishes with Southern touches. The Jackson, Mississippi-founded restaurant company with local offices in Roswell, Georgia already has six existing locations throughout the Southeast and plans to open its doors in June at 33 Peachtree Place at the corner of West Peachtree Street and Peachtree Place next to the newly opened Dancing Goats Coffee Bar.

“Our new Midtown restaurant is completely unique to Atlanta; in fact no two Babalus are alike. Our whole brand is founded on providing guests something better and different. It’s in our design, our feel, our people and definitely our food and guest experience,” says Stan Stout, Chief Operating Officer of Eat Here Brands. “Our chefs draw inspiration from locally sourced ingredients for our made-from-scratch dishes and handcrafted cocktails. ”

Guests can look forward to a wide selection of starters, soups and salads, chef-inspired small plates, tacos, sandwiches, sides to share and desserts. Examples of menu items include:
  • Signature guacamole made tableside with Hass avocado, sun-dried tomato, red and green onion, kosher salt, cilantro and lime juice, served with house chips
  • Pan Roasted Redfish: Rösti potatoes, smoked corn pico de gallo, red chili butter sauce
  • De Pato Taco: Duck confit, avocado mousse, yellow onions, cotija cheese, lime vinaigrette & cilantro
  • Creole Shrimp & Grits: Gulf shrimp, garlic, herb Creole sauce, mushrooms, cilantro, Coldwater Creek grits, grilled country bread
Margaritas, sangria, signature cocktails and a curated tequila selection accompany local craft beers and wines by the glass and bottle to complement the shareable menu, which is designed to inspire conversation, encourage camaraderie and promote good times.

The Atlanta restaurant’s 5,200-square-foot space will feature chef’s table seating as well as a large outdoor dining patio with an indoor/outdoor bar. Appealing to the urban lifestyle and eclectic nature of Midtown’s residents and visitors, Babalu takes pride in the restaurants’ communities and offers a dining experience intended to bring people together.

BABALU TAPAS & TACOS ANNOUNCES EXECUTIVE TEAM FOR FIRST ATLANTA LOCATION
New Latin-Inspired Restaurant with a Southern Twist Acquires Experienced Leaders
for June Opening of Midtown Outpost

ATLANTA – Babalu Tapas & Tacos announced today the hiring of general manager Dahlio Cheatam, assistant general manager David Smith and executive chef Jeffrey McGar for the company’s first Atlanta location. The Jackson, Mississippi-founded restaurant company with local offices in Roswell already has six existing locations throughout the Southeast and will open its doors in June at the corner of West Peachtree Street and Peachtree Place in the 33 Peachtree Place development.

“We are thrilled to have Dahlio, David and Jeffrey take on leadership roles at Babalu Atlanta,” said Stan Stout, COO at Eat Here Brands, operator of Babalu Tapas & Tacos. “Their extensive experience in the restaurant industry plus a natural knack for true hospitality and warmth in service is a precise match for Babalu’s one goal, which is to make guests happy.”

General manager Dahlio Cheatam has been in the restaurant industry ever since an injury in college cost him an athletic scholarship and he turned to waiting tables to earn money for school. The day-to-day interaction with customers had him hooked, and he has since gained valuable hospitality experience from Georgia to California.

“There is a lot of behind-the-scenes hustle that goes into service, but receiving verbal confirmation from guests that everything was perfect while they were with us is the best part of my job,” says Cheatam of what he enjoys most about his role at Babalu.

Assistant general manager David Smith has held jobs in accounting, retail, marketing and business operations but always found his way back to a restaurant after missing the personal interaction with guests and being a part of people’s celebrations.

“No two days are the same,” says Smith when asked about his favorite aspect of the job. “I love overcoming new challenges and knowing I learned something about myself and my team.”

Executive chef Jeffery McGar has been working in the restaurant industry since he was 15, and although his career began in management, he soon discovered that he excelled in the kitchen. He has been in Atlanta since 1997, when he began working at Cherokee Town & Country Club, the number one Platinum Country Club in America. McGar believes in keeping his cuisine simple to highlight quality ingredients and then pours his heart into each dish. He is passionate about grilling and smoking meats, particularly pork, but when he’s not in the kitchen, his second love is building and upgrading cars.

Opening its doors this summer, Babalu Atlanta is located at 33 Peachtree Place at the corner of West Peachtree Street and Peachtree Place next to the newly opened Dancing Goats Coffee Bar.

CHEF-RESTAURATEUR KEVIN GILLESPIE ANNOUNCES
REVIVAL’S NEW CHEF DE CUISINE NICOLE FREY EDWARDS
Red Beard Restaurants Alum Shares Gillespie’s Passion for Seasonality and Southern Cuisine

ATLANTA– Atlanta chef, restaurateur, speaker and cookbook author Kevin Gillespie is welcoming a new addition to the team at his popular Decatur restaurant Revival: chef de cuisine Nicole Frey Edwards. Edwards was most recently sharpening her creative edge at Gillespie’s Glenwood Park restaurant Gunshow, and now Revival guests will have the opportunity to experience both her culinary creativity and her fervor for Southern fare.

“Even though she’s not from here originally, Nicole truly is a Southerner at heart, and she really understands my connection to the classic recipes that have defined the cuisine of the South,” says Gillespie. “She is constantly searching for new ways to modernize these dishes and make them her own while also making use of what’s in peak season. The warmth she exudes is also a major component of the dining experience we seek to offer at Revival.”

Edwards’ love affair with Southern cuisine started when she arrived in Atlanta in 2014 and served as executive sous chef at Watershed on Peachtree. There, she was exposed to both Creole-style Southern food as well as more modern takes on traditional Southern flavor profiles.

“I wasn’t expecting to enjoy cooking Southern food so much,” Edwards laughs at the unexpected path her culinary career has taken. “Now I love reading classic cookbooks with recipes that sound like they’re straight from a great-grandmother’s table. Those are the same types of recipes from Kevin’s childhood that inspire the food at Revival.”

Prior to arriving at Revival this spring, Edwards worked at Gunshow and credits the restaurant for pushing her past her creative comfort zone. “When I first started at Gunshow, my ideas grew out of things I had seen at other restaurants but didn’t have a hand in, and now it’s morphed into exploring ways to use interesting ingredients that are available to me right now. Understanding seasonality has had a huge influence on me.”

Edwards’ career highlights also include time working as a line cook and sous chef under chef Stephanie Izard at Girl and the Goat in Chicago, where she developed the skills to feed 350-600 guests every evening in an extremely fast-paced environment, and a line cook position at Café Boulud in West Palm Beach, Florida. While in Florida, she also spent two years working for Michelle Bernstein at Sra. Martinez and Michy’s. Edwards earned her culinary arts degree and a Bachelor of Science in culinary nutrition from Johnson and Wales University and began her culinary career with Operation Frontline Colorado/Share Our Strength in Denver, teaching cooking and nutrition classes throughout the state while also working at The Brown Palace Hotel and Spa. Once she experienced the energy of a restaurant kitchen, she never looked back.

Revival is located at 129 Church Street in Decatur. The restaurant serves dinner Wednesday through Sunday beginning at 5 p.m. and Sunday brunch from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Reservations are accepted but not required and can be made online or by calling 470-225-6770. Additional information can be found at revivaldecatur.com.

JUNE FEATURES ON TAP AT TACO MAC INCLUDE POUR ONE FORWARD PROMOTION TO HONOR VETERANS, BEER OF THE MONTH, LIMITED-TIME JUNKYARD DOGS AND GLASSWARE GIVEAWAYS
Southeastern Destination for Craft Beverages Partners with Samuel Adams, Devils Backbone Brewing
and Ole Smoky Moonshine for Satisfying Summertime Specials

ATLANTA – Atlanta’s institution for award-winning wings, the most craft on draft and the best sports-watching environment is engaging guests on both a culinary and charitable level this month. Today, Taco Macannounces four special summer promotions, including a partnership with The Boston Beer Company to pour one forward for veterans, new Beers of the Month for June, a giveaway to celebrate National Moonshine Day (June 5) and a new limited-time menu feature.

“We believe our military veterans should be recognized every day, so we are encouraging our guests to thank those who have served our country with the purchase of a Samuel Adams beer,” says Senior Director of Marketing Emily Beesley. “And in an effort to offer new craveable food and beverage selections, Taco Mac is adding Junkyard Dogs and Devils Backbone beers to the menu for a limited time to celebrate the start of summer,” she adds.

All of the June offerings include:
  • Pour One Forward: Taco Mac is partnering with The Boston Beer Company so guests can pre-purchase a Samuel Adams beer (Boston Lager or Light Lager) for $6 now through July 4 for veterans to redeem. The restaurant guest pre-purchases a beer and fills out a thank you card that is displayed in the restaurant indicating to vets that there are beers available for redemption. Limited to one beer per visit, and a military or veteran ID is required to redeem. In addition, each time a guest posts a photo or video thanking a veteran using the hashtag #PourOneForward, Samuel Adams will make a dollar donation to American Dream U, a non-profit dedicated to helping our military get the education and access to resources they need to find their dream job or to start a business of their own.
  • June Beer of the Month: Each month Taco Mac partners with a different brewery to showcase new and exciting beers. June’s featured brewery is Devils Backbone Brewing Company, and Taco Mac will pour the following:
    • Trail Angel - Bavarian-Style Hefeweisen - 4.9% ABV
    • Gold Leaf - Golden Lager - 4.5% ABV
    • Vienna - Vienna-Style Lager - 5.2% ABV
    • Eight Point - IPA - 6.2% ABV
Taco Mac is also helping to support a partnership between Devils Backbone and the Appalachian Trail Conservancy(ATC). For $10 each, guests can purchase a commemorative stainless steel camping pint to keep, filled with any Beer of the Month beer and good for a new Brewniversity credit. Pints are available all month long while supplies last, and incremental profits from these cups will be donated to the ATC to support its efforts in crafting adventures from Georgia to Maine.
  • Moonshine Monday: In celebration of National Moonshine Day, Taco Mac is hosting a shot glass giveaway beginning at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 5. As a leader in everything craft, including cocktails, the restaurant will offer its Ole Smoky Hooch Punch cocktail, and each guest who orders one will receive a set of two mini mason jar shot glasses to take home while supplies last.
  • Junkyard Dogs: New mini chili cheese dogs are available at Taco Mac locations during June and July as either an entrée (three dogs + one side) or as a kid’s meal (two plain hot dogs + kids side). These mini all-beef hot dogs are topped with award-winning chili, shredded cheese, diced onion, tomato and pickled jalapeños and served with a choice of side for $9.99.
TACO MAC TAKES HOME FIRST PLACE IN ATLANTA BURGER WARS
AND EARNS LOCAL BUSINESS AWARDS
Atlanta-Area Destination for Buffalo Wings, Craft Beers and Sports Viewing Excels
in Serving its Local Communities

ATLANTA – Taco Mac racked up several major awards throughout May, proving the company isn’t just winging it when it comes to quality food and drinks, true hospitality and superior business practices. Recent recognitions include Grand Prize Winner at the Atlanta Burger Wars, Best of Duluth Award, Best of Roswell Award and Best Creative Wing at the Brookhaven Slingin’ Wings Festival.
“Taco Mac is known for our award-winning wings and craft beer selection, but listening to our guests is always our best ingredient for success,” says Senior Director of Marketing Emily Beesley. “Our restaurant teams have been working hard to keep our guests happy with the food they crave and the sports-watching atmosphere they love, and those efforts have paid off in a big way through these recent accolades from our Atlanta community.”

On May 6Atlanta Burger Wars took place at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton. Some of the greatest burger masters were pitted against one another for a chance to compete in the World Food Championships while benefiting McDonough Arts and Speedway Children’s charities. Taco Mac’s BBQ Blues Burger Stax won the Judge’s Choice award, resulting in a trip to the World Food Championships in Orange Beach, Alabama, this November. Taco Mac fans can view all the Burger Wars action when Food Network airs the event on national television in September and can try this burger at all locations beginning in August.

On May 20, Taco Mac took home two awards at the first-ever Slingin’ Wings Festival in Brookhaven. The restaurant’s lemon pepper dry rub won Best Creative Wing, while the medium sauce was runner up for Best Buffalo Sauce. The competition was stiff and included many other local restaurants and chains.

To top it all off, Taco Mac received the 2017 Best of Duluth and Best of Roswell awards in the local business category.
