REVIEW: Exteme Teriyaki (Duluth, GA)

Hey readers!

I'm not sure if this applies to every mall, but about 99% of the shopping malls here in Georgia (North Point, Perimeter, Lenox, Gwinnett and more) have these popular Japanese hibachi stands. I'm sure you've been tempted by those delicious chicken teriyaki samples that are always being handed out, and if you're like me, have asked for a couple. Most of the time when I'm at the mall, it's usually what I like to order. Not only is it affordable (around $5-6), but the portions are also HUGE, literally enough for 2-3 people to share. In addition, it's absolutely delicious and you get to watch them cook it in front of you.

Where am I going with this? So not too long ago, Scoutmob posted a deal about this place called Extreme Teriyaki located in Duluth (in the same shopping center as The Nautical Nest). Well, like those hibachi stations at the malls, this place isn't located inside of a mall, but rather a shopping center and its own storefront.

Let's get started:
♣Exterior of the restaurant

♣Sign inside of the restaurant

♣The bright menu, followed by the hibachi station-just like the mall

♣Three combo plate: chicken teriyaki, beef teriyaki, and salmon. Comes with white or fried rice and a side of steamed mixed veggies ($8.99)

FOOD (4/5): YUMMY! The food here was delicious :). The prices are very similar to the ones that you would find at the mall, the portions here are actually LARGER and tastes so much fresher than what you find at the mall. There was so much food on my plate leftover, that I took it home, reheated and it was an amazing midnight snack. The chicken teriyaki was moist and tender and covered in that sweet teriyaki goodness, and the salmon filets (about 4-5 thinly sliced pieces) were just okay. They tasted a bit overdone, but when eaten with the sauce and hot sauce, it tasted fine. Also, the beef teriyaki was not what I had expected, both good and bad. Good because I like the taste of it and it was really smooth and tender, but bad because I think I was assuming steak but instead got the beef that is usually used in mongolian beef. Either way, the whole dish was delicious and the veggies were tender, well seasoned and extremely flavorful. Best way to attack this platter-grab some meat, some veggies, and a bite of steamed rice and it's perfection!

SERVICE (5/5): As soon as I entered the restaurant, I was immediately greeted by the employee at the register. She was really friendly and always had a smile on her face, even when it took a little bit of time to read through the menu in it's entirety. I finally placed my order and was handed a drink cup and waited patiently along the counter where the hibachi grill was for my order. When your meats and vegetables are done cooking, they'll ask you whether you would like steamed/fried rice and if you'd like extra teriyaki sauce. The lady that was doing that for me was really sweet and started engaging in a conversation with me, speaking Mandarin, of course. The rest is self-service, so that was about the only interaction I had with the employees. Upon leaving, they said "Thank you, have a great night!" which was a sweet gesture, in my opinion.

DECOR (5/5): I love the decor here! Yellow are red are definitely the main colors used here, and surprisingly, they go VERY well together! Gold means wealth/fortune and red mean luck and well-being in Chinese. I really like the font used for the word "Teriyaki," it kind of looks like swords, does it not? In addition, I really like the wooden chairs inside of the store, along with the wooden panels that are used around the countertop, and the open kitchen. Being an actual restaurant, without the competition of ten other food stands if they were located inside of a mall, they could have had a closed off kitchen, but instead, keeping true to their name & the way it's really done, everyone can view the hibachi chefs cooking it up.

Overall, I really enjoyed my meal and the ambiance at Extreme Teriyaki. I must say that I'm an even bigger fan because of the fact that I don't have to park a million cars away (at a shopping mall) then walk all the way to the food court, just to pick up some chicken teriyaki. Instead, I can come here, which is only 2 miles or so from my home, pick up a nice meal, eat it there or take it home, for the same price as the malls. Also, it'll really save me the extra gas money ;). So if you like those hibachi stores at the mall, I can guarantee you'll love Extreme Teriyaki! They also have a $4.99 special on the chicken teriyaki entree, and most people who ordered after me, seemed to really enjoy it as well.
