It's finally time to kick back and enjoy the weekend, especially for those who had to work on Independence Day, which I think should be totally illegal.
So when I think of donuts, the FIRST thing that pops into my head is a bunch of policemen sitting around enjoying donuts with their cups of coffee-OR-Homer Simpson eating a box of his bright pink sprinkled doughnuts. Either way, donuts are by far one of my favorite baked goods and are entirely my weakness. They'll trump cinnamon rolls, muffins, or bagels ANY day. When I was up in NYC 2 years ago, gourmet doughnut shops seemed to be the biggest trend, alongside cupcakeries. In Atlanta, however, there weren't many that I knew of/had heard of up until recently. Of course, I had to give those other donut shops a shot and honestly, their donuts were comparable to gas station quality (not that there is anything wrong with that, just for comparison purposes only). I thought I'd be forever lost in a sea of unoriginal, flavorless donuts and would have to move to NYC to get the best...until NOW that is. This past week, my friend who lives in the Decatur area, mentioned a new donut shop that opened up around the corner of her block, in the same shopping center as Ale Yeah! (one of her favorite stores). Knowing me, I just could NOT pass up on that opportunity, especially considering how far away I live from her (42+ miles). And thank goodness I didn't, or else I would've had to slap myself for doing so.
Let's get started:
☮Handpainted sign on the storefront. Looks AMAZING!
☮The tantalizing doughtnut glass display. 12 trays of various doughtnuts (cake-style & yeast-style).
☮Side-view of the front area. Drink menu, doughtnut menu, open kitchen window.
☮Line starting to form at 10AM
☮THE.BEST.DAMN.DOUGHTNUTS.I. HAVE.EVER.EATEN.IN.MY.LIFE. END.OF.STORY.
☮Blueberry doughnut (Yeast Style)
☮Salted Caramel and Bacon doughnut (Yeast Style)
☮FOOD (5/5): It should be a CRIME to sell these doughnuts anywhere! They're like an addictive substance-that I would NOT mind being locked up in jail for and serving a life sentence. But seriously though, I don't even know where to begin to describe how amazing these donuts were. Even any of the ones could NOT compare, not by an infinity of a mile. I'm not a big fan of cake donuts, since I love my -donuts to be light and airy, so I usually go for the yeast style, but I will definitely have to try their cake style, considering how perfect they perfected the yeast ones. Anyways, I ordered two donuts for myself, a blueberry and a salted caramel and bacon. Before I forget to mention, if you "like" them on Facebook, they usually post pictures/updates about the newest flavors and what now. Unfortunately on the day I visited, there weren't any Nutella donuts or peach sliders, but that just gives me more of an excuse to come back here more often. Both donuts were LARGE ($2.00 for each), as you can tell by my picture. They were taller, rounder and fuller compared to your typical Krispy Kreme & Dunkin Donuts. Oh my lord-in terms of taste. The donut itself was incredibly moist, chewy, and a mouthful. With each bite, you could smell the yeast and the freshness of the donut, along with the flavoring of it itself. The blueberry doughnut was delicious, it was a yeast style donut with a blueberry glaze. The blueberry flavoring was subtle, but it was definitely there. The salted caramel and bacon is where it was at! Wow-seriously wow! All those other bacon doughnut imitators-be VERY VERY CAREFUL. The salted caramel was absolute perfection-sweet, but not overly sweet, and drizzled/glazed over that donut-are you all drooling yet? If not, you should be. Then, add the smokiness and crunch of the bacon to give it that unique texture and tantalizing taste, your tastebuds would seriously go into a flavor frenzy because mine certainly did. So many other flavors to try, so little time to try them all. What I love about them is that the donuts don't leave an oily aftertaste/residue, which is hard to find these days. If I weren't trying to watch my diet and had the metabolism I had when I was a kid, you better BELIEVE I'd sit in front of the TV with a dozen of these babies with me.
☮SERVICE (5/5): The two lovely ladies working at the counter were super friendly and helpful. They offered me recommendations of their favorites and of the customer's most popular selection. Not to mention, they were quick getting me my donuts, which was always a plus. Besides that though, there's a self-serve water station/counter to get straws, napkins and more.
☮DECOR (5/5): I already mentioned how much I loved the uniqueness of their handpainted sign! You don't see that around these days. In addition, I love how vintage and chic their logo looks as well. The interior of the store is very nice looking as well, dark wood, a beautifully designed glass frame/donut holder-it looks upscale with the touch of hominess. All the prices on the menu are neatly listed out so you're not searching for them, there are adorable paper flowers adorning each table, the chairs & table are comfortable too. In addition, there's also a "bar" area against the storefront, with high top chairs and everything (no alcohol, sorry!) Oopsies, also forgot to add that they have outdoor seating too, which would be perfect for the fall (too hot for me in the summer, but for those of you who like the heat, it's perfect) and you get to hear/see the trains that pass by on the railroad tracks across the street.
Overall, I absolutely enjoyed my experience here at Revolution Doughnuts. Like I mentioned before, these are hands down the BEST doughnuts I've ever tasted, and I've had a lot of doughnuts. No more KK, DD, or any of those imitators out there. If you live here, GO get some NOW. If you don't (like myself), it's worth the HOUR drive to get here-I'm really not kidding. I hope my friend doesn't get sick of me because every time I see her, whether I'm going there or she's coming to visit me, these doughnuts WILL be in the picture, whether we like it or not (if you're reading this, I know you love me
<3). Definitely go and check them out. RUN, don't WALK. Keep doing your thing & keep up the fantastic job! Get here before the line goes out the door (that should tell you something!).
P.S.-They have VEGAN doughnuts too :)
Here's the physical address: 908 West College Avenue

Have a sweet day,
