REVIEW: Tap Gastropub (Atlanta, GA)

Hey everyone!

As promised, I have quite a bit of reviews to share with you all! :) Now that I'm back home, these food adventures are getting easier & more convenient to do. So convenient, in fact, that I have over 10+ reviews I have yet to do that are still sitting in my "Drafts" section, but stay updated with my page, and I promise they'll be up eventually.

This past weekend, my friends & I had a wonderful lunch at Tap Gastropub. For those of you who don't know what a gastropub is, it's essentially a bar and restaurant that serves high-end beer & food. It's okay, I didn't really understand the concept of it either, until now that is. It's pretty great having friends who work in the Atlanta area and know where good food is to be found, making my foodie trips a lot easier.

Let's get started:

★Menu of Edibles-tells you where your five tastebuds are

★Mixed Green Salad ($5)

★"Cowgirl Creamery" Grilled Cheese: Paired with tomato bisque as the side ($11)

★Sticky Toffee Puddin': Caramel and toffee pudding cake, vanilla ice cream ($6)

★Milk Chocolate Creme Brulee: Powdered sugar, red wine cherries ($6)

★No beer = EXTRA desserts for ME :)

★FOOD (4.5/5): Where to begin? The mixed green salad (I definitely got tricked into ordering this-my waitress didn't mention I had to pay for it and I thought it was part of the meal, but it wasn't) was a huge disappointment. There was absolutely no flavoring to it, and the dressing (vinaigrette) was barely noticeable. I felt like I was rabbit gnawing on vegetables. Let's get to the REAL winner of the meal though. After reading various reviews here and there, I heard that the Cowgirl Creamery couldn't be missed at Tap, so that's exactly what I ordered. And boy, were they right on the money. This isn't your typical Kraft cheese melted on some bread, this was the REAL deal, I'd imagine for grownups and children alike. The ciabatta bread was incredibly fresh and toasty, and had the perfect little crunch with each bite. The cheese, which I was told was "a blend of various cheese" was just superb. So ooey and gooey, it was a real mouthful. Just like those commercials with grilled cheese, when you pulled this sandwich apart, you could see all the stringy cheese just drifting away from one another. By far the BEST darn grilled cheese I've ever had! Not to mention, they're a few basil leaves inside the sandwich to give it a very subtle taste. The tomato bisque was also a winner. Warm and creamy with succulent tomatoes inside topped with a few basil leaves, it was the perfect side to this grilled cheese. It brought me back to my childhood when I would dip my mama's grilled cheese sandwich in my Campbell's tomato soup, but a million times better & tastier. My friend ordered some sort of burger, which was also pretty darn delicious as well. It was definitely a pretty large portion too, and made for great dinner leftovers. Since I'm not a beer drinker by any means and wasn't able to finish my lunch, I ordered TWO desserts. Call me greedy, but I have the biggest sweet tooth. I asked our waitress for some suggestions and she definitely recommended the sticky toffee puddin', while I was already set on the milk chocolate creme brulee. The pudding was by far my favorite! Moist, warm and chewy, paired with that cold vanilla ice cream, it's like you have fire vs. ice in your mouth. My friend, who grew up in England, said that it's comparable, if not better, than what you find in England! :). Next was the creme brulee. It was definitely very tasty, but sort of reminded me of a chocolate pudding when I actually dug inside. Also, there was WAY too much powdered sugar on it, which sort of took away from the experience, and the sugary crust was not that noticeable. I really liked the red wine cherries though, those were delicious and helped make the dessert a little more flavorful. Also, I forgot to mention-I love the presentation of the tomato bisque in a skillet, it's very home-y & cute, and keeps the soup warm. Also, the mint addition to the desserts was a classy move, too.

★SERVICE (5/5): The service here was fantastic! I don't remember our waitress's name, but she was very friendly and talkative. She had no problem recommending the popular taps in-house since my friend wanted to really kick back and relax, popular dishes depending on what we were in the mood for, and had no problem refilling our drinks. She also checked on us occasionally and asked how everything was, without intruding or interrupting our conversations. Great service, fantastic food!

★DECOR (5/5): I don't remember too much of the decor, but I just know it was a beautiful restaurant. High ceilings, a beautiful patio and bar area, dark wooden tables and chairs, and just very elegant. This isn't your typical pub/bar for a reason, and it surely shows it. Although I didn't get to snap a pic of the exterior or interior, the outside is very gorgeous, white building. White, black & red are the common color themes of this restaurant, and are actually my favorite colors. With some place this beautiful, no wonder why some many business people who work/live close by come here often, making it a popular establishment.

Overall, I absolutely enjoyed my experience at TAP. The fact that they serve brunch, lunch and dinner, at very affordable and reasonable prices in addition to fantastic drinks makes this place a real winner in my book. Even though I don't really live near by here, I can't wait to come back to try more of their menu out. The fact that this place is in the heart of Atlanta and can offer such great food and services at a reasonable price makes this place a REAL steal! Thanks to my friends who brought me here, I've
found yet another winner in my book of Atlanta restaurants!
